Brighton and Hove Albion chief executive Paul Barber has revealed that the club is keen to offer striker Danny Welbeck a new deal and that talks are ongoing to renew his contract at the club.

As revealed by Sussexlive, the Brighton CEO and manager Graham Potter want Danny Welbeck to stay at the Amex Stadium ahead of the new season as his current deal expires this month.

Brighton signed Danny Welbeck in October shortly after his contract with Watford was terminated by mutual consent and he has been one of the best players for the Seagulls. He scored six goals as he helped Brighton to preserve their Premier League status for another season.

Welbeck has made his presence felt at Brighton unlike his time at Watford. The former Arsenal and Manchester United attackerbattled with injuries for the majority of his time at Watford as the club suffered Premier League relegation at the end of the last campaign. He had joined the Hornets on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 at the end of his five-year spell at North London giants Arsenal.

Brighton have made the decision to sign Danny Welbeck to another deal after an impressive attacking return of four goals in his last eight matches. A new Brighton contract was in serious doubt until the good run of form in front of goal. Before then, he had scored just two goals plus one assist in his first 14 games for the club.

Seagulls CEO and deputy chairman Barber talked about Danny Welbeck at the Brighton fans’ forum on Tuesday night as he buttressed the comments made by manager Potter last month that hinted that a new deal awaits the former Manchester United and Sunderland player.
