Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the talks with the striker Danny Welbeck has been ongoing in recent weeks and that he is hopeful that the youth team product will sign a new deal with the club. The 21-year-old has become one of the surprise packages of last season for Manchester United after he managed to keep out the likes of Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov out of the starting line-up. He also scored almost 20 goals in his first season with Manchester United. Due to the fact that he has only two years left on his current contract, United are ready to offer him a new deal.
However, it is understood that both parties are way off before they can come to terms of the new deal. This is due to the fact that Danny Welbeck is demanding around £ 60,000 per week, while Manchester United are ready to offer him only half of the amount. Danny Welbeck’s stock has risen in recent weeks after he managed to successfully lead England to victories in the first two group matches of the Euro 2012. He led the line up in the absence of his Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney, who was suspended.
“We are negotiating with Danny’s brothers. They represent him. It’s difficult to say where we are with that at this moment in time. We’ve fostered him. He’s always had growth spurts and things like that, so we fostered him right that period when he was developing. I don’t think he’s got his full body yet. I think there’s a lot of growth in him yet. I don’t think he’ll get taller, he’s 6ft 3ins now,” said Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson regarding the future of Danny Welbeck. The youngster came through the academy at United.

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has revealed that Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is largely responsible for the magnificent 3-2 win over Sweden in the second group game of the Euro 2012 for England. England were coming into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw with France, who had earlier won their second group game against Ukraine 2-0. As a result, it put tremendous pressure on England to deliver a win against Sweden. It was going to be extremely difficult given that Sweden have been unbeaten against England in the last seven matches.
It proved to be a difficult match as many expected after England were looking at the possibility of a 2-1 defeat after the hour mark. However, a goal from Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott helped England win the match 3-2. As a result, there are the favourites to qualify from the group stage ahead of Ukraine. Danny Welbeck said after the match that he is extremely delighted at the influence Theo Walcott had in the match. The Arsenal winger came as a substitute in the match when they were trailing, and was responsible for the turnaround after he scored one and set up the other for Danny Welbeck.
‘We’re all very pleased for Theo. We know when he gets on the pitch he’s going to make a difference. That’s what he’s done today. I’m delighted to get the winning goal but it was more of a team performance. At the start of the second half we let in two sloppy goals and that’s something we want to put behind us. But our team spirit showed and we’re delighted to get three points,’ said goal scoring hero Danny Welbeck after the match. Liverpool striker Andy Carroll scored the opening goal for England in the first half.
