CARRICK BACKS WELBECK
The Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has said that he is a big fan of his teammate at club level, Danny Welbeck. The Manchester United youth team prospect has become one of the established players within the team over the last couple of seasons. The loan spell at Sunderland has enabled him to come into the Manchester United first team in leaps and bounds according to the former Tottenham midfielder. He recently impressed at international level with the England national team match against San Marino. Michael Carrick reckons that Danny Welbeck has all it takes to become the future England star.
Danny Welbeck scored two goals in the 5-0 win over San Marino at Wembley recently. Even though Manchester United have signed the former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie for £ 24 million, Carrick reckons that Welbeck will be able to show his quality even with this increased competition. Manchester United now have four good strikers including Danny Welbeck, which makes it difficult for him to get into the first-team on a regular basis. Carrick has said that many question the ability of Danny Welbeck to fit into the team following the arrival of van Persie, but he has made the seamless switch according to the midfielder.
“I am a massive fan. I am probably a bit biased because of the United connection. But ever since I have seen Danny I have been a huge fan and I expected big things of him. He has had a terrific couple of years now. People were looking at him when we signed Van Persie saying ‘where is his position, where is he going to fit in? But he showed he is still a major part of it,” said Michael Carrick. England will be having the tough away match against Poland on Wednesday.
