ATTITUDE STINKS
The Wigan athletic manager Roberto Martinez has said that he is extremely disappointed with the attitude shown by the Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck in the match between the two clubs at Old Trafford during the weekend. Manchester United managed to win the match comfortably 4-0, but for long periods of the match, it looked like Wigan would be able to come away with something.
The first instant of bad luck for Wigan came in the form of a penalty early in the match when Danny Welbeck was happy to be fouled by the on coming Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi. However, replays clearly showed that Danny Welbeck made no contact with the Wigan goalkeeper, but went to the ground – a bit like Luis Suarez.
A penalty was awarded in the match, but justification was done after Manchester United’s penalty was saved by the Wigan keeper. Even though begins to lost the match quite badly, the manager Roberto Martinez has said that the penalty early in the match gave his side a nervousness that they were unable to recover from throughout the match. He has said that his disappointed with the diving attitude of the England international Danny Welbeck, who recently extended his contract with the Old Trafford club.
“For Danny Welbeck’s last challenge, his foot was over the ball on Franco. It is completely reckless. Under the new regulations you cannot do that. I am not arguing whether they should be in the game or not. That is for others. But with the laws as they are, you cannot tackle people like that. The foot is over the ball. It is reckless and dangerous. It is a red card, for a Wigan player, Manchester United, everyone,” said the Wigan manager Roberto Martinez. Wigan have only one victory in the season till date.
