WELBECK SUBBED ON DURING UNITED DEFEAT
England striker Danny Welbeck was a substitute in the second half as his Brighton and Hove Albion side tasted defeat against home team Manchester United in their rescheduled Premier League clash this week.Welbeck could not prevent his team from suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of his former team when they met at the Theatre of Dreams on Tuesday night.
The Seagulls were the better team in the first half of the United game and the hosts had Spaniard David De Gea in goal to thank for keeping the scoreline at 0-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes. The Red Devils took their game to a new level in the second half and they were rewarded with two goals from the Portugal national team duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
Ronaldo shot Manchester United into the lead in the 51st minute before Brighton were reduced to ten men three minutes later after skipper Lewis Dunk was given a red card for denying young Swedish attacker Anthony Elanga a clear goalscoring opportunity. Danny Welbeck was subbed on for French attacker Maupay with twenty (20) minutes to go and he had the chance to equalise for his teamwith a minute left via a header, but he could not take the chance. Welbeck would then rue the chance after Bruno Fernandes sealed the win for United in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
